Aguaragüe: a health station for keeping healthy

The Salta team already has an outdoor space where they can do physical activity at the Lomitas base. As long as they respect the health and safety protocols, employees can work out and take care of their physical and mental health.

In mid-2020, when employees returned to work at Base Lomitas, in Salta, they could no longer do their stretching classes with the instructor as non-plant personnel wasn’t allowed to enter the facilities.

But it was clear that these restrictions were not going to get in the way of people’s exercise, so vital to good health. According to the WHO, doing physical activity reduces the risk of diseases such as high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, strokes, diabetes, breast and colon cancer, depression, and falls. It also improves bone strength and functional health and is a key determinant of energy expenditure, the key to caloric balance and weight control.

The Human Resources area consulted with the local Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team before working on its healthy plaza project: they did everything from purchasing a kit and coordinating its transport to hiring people to assemble the equipment on site at the health station.

Today, the station has 10 activity points designed for physical exercise, distributed over a circuit that includes warm-up moves, cardio, stretching, posture work, and exercises to strengthen the upper and lower body and limbs.

As we’re still in the middle of the pandemic, it was fundamental to ensure health protocols were in place before allowing people to use the Health Plaza, such as face masks and shields, and cleaning all the elements properly before and after exercising.

Today, at the Lomitas Base, 24 employees can already enjoy working out at the Health Plaza and take care of their physical and mental wellbeing.
